Every summer the Arena (Colosseum) in Pula, fulfills it original purpose, as place where larger crowds are entertained, but in contradiction to prior there is no longer Gladiators and wild animals in the center of the Arena, now days the entertainment is provided by singers.

The summer events in the Arena, runs under the name Histria Festival, many famous singer like e.g. Carreras, Eros Ramazzotia or Anastasia, has already played at the Festival, which by far is the largest music event in Istria. The Festival usually starts end of June and ends in the middle of August, during this period there is 1-2 concert a week.

Although the program for the Histria Festival 2009 has not yes been finalized, you can see a list of the confirm events here Histria Festival 2009, which amoung other include names like Michael Bolton and Sir Elton John

So if you plan visiting Croatia this year, you should definitely considering going to one of the concerts in the Arena, if not for the music, then just to experience an open air concert in a 2000 years old building, when will you have opportunity like that again?
