National park Paklenica
At the second day on our Easter holiday, we decided to drive to national park Paklenica, which is situated 40 km from the Zadar. We decide to go by the road via Maslenica.
We had read in the Croatian newspaper that Paklenica was hosting a Winnetou event in the Easter days, with Indians, horseback riding and a number of activities for kids. For those you don’t know, Winnetou is a fictional Indian hero, created by the German writer Karl May during the sixties around 10 movies was produced based on Karl May’s novels, most of these movies was recorded in Croatia in areas like Paklenica, Plitvice and around the Cetina river.
As Winnetou movies was quite popular in Germany and other European centuries, you actually today have organized trips – in the trails of Winnetou – which takes fans around to different places in Croatia where the movies was recorded.
As we arrived at Paklenica it unfortunately started raining, we anyway decide to pay the entrance fee, in the hope that it would clear up later. From the entrance we drove the 2.5 km to the final parking area. (Be aware the in main season you most properly will not find any parking here, but will have to walk from the entrance)
The weather did not improve the rain became stronger and stronger, so we spend one our in the car looking at hundreds off climbers rushing back from the park with all their equipment, after one hour we decided to ignore the rain and at least have a look at one of the marked Winnetou sides before heading back to Zadar.
So the learning point of this day was, sometimes the meteorologist actually get it right
