PODSTRANA- ancient autochthon village

Submitted by Aneta on Thursday, 28 February 20083 Comments
The ancient village Podstrana is embedded beneath the hill, sheltered from the wind and protected by Saint Fabian, after whom is named the church on the top of the hill.
At distance of 15 km from town Split, 2,5 km from the sea, following serpentine road you will climb up to a place where you will think that the time has stopped for at least 100 years. At approximately 6 minutes drive from the main road, you will have a breathtaking view of sea, islands, town Split and fishing village Stobreč.

It is ethno village, one of few conserverd, with almost all stone houses and ruins under strict protection and marked as historical and cultural heritage. Therefore, on this territory it is strictly forbidden to build houses and where there’s a construction area, it is required a minimum of 1 500 m2 land area and house cannot be higher than 6 m.

Another feature is a new local road that is being built from Trogir to Omiš and it will be at distance of approximately 500 m from the village which will enable inhabitants an easier access to Split airport etc.
Podstrana is one of rare jewels where a harmony between ancient and new will be achieved thanks to local planning.

Authentic nature and abundance of spring water givee the village a special charm .

Nice to see the area. I have bought an apartment in Seget (not far from Trogir), and it is very interesting to photos from that area. Croatia is a beautiful country and the people who live there are wonderful.
